After a long week of drudgery (who am I kidding? it's not that bad being a rock philosopher), Fatty's 4th of July Party awaits. The special of the night is smoked ribs and if they taste as good as they smell, they will all be gone within an hour and you'll have to wait a whole year before the opportunity to have them again in your favorite rock n' roll grease pit. There's a kick ass lineup from the wave of western bands taking root in the city. We may not be the biggest city in the world for music (at least not yet) but there sure is a lot of heart and soul, DIY philosophy, and authenticity. It's been a rough week but it's times like these that help me recall my mission and purpose. Every musician wants to make a living playing their music. "Making it" might only mean paying the rent and quitting the day job. To others it's canvasing the globe performing in arenas and Rolling Stone photo shoots. It's different for everyone but my mission is to help as many musicians as I can ahieve their dreams by using our collective talents - I don't know what the name of this career is, I just know it has to be done. The show must go on. The show will go on. And it sure is more engaging than most other jobs. One day you will look back at the endless days of summer - life in Bangkok - and reminisce about how amazing everything was. You will tell your grandchildren about all the shows, the awesome bands, the friendships made and the challenges overcome. You are a part of history in the making and your future is largely a blank notebook written by you. Some of these bands are gonna make it and someone needs to document it. The schedule for tonight: 7:00 The Sea Green 7:30 Count the Thief 8:20 Fathers of Medicine 8:50 Ramsey J Judson 9:30 The Sangsom Massacre 10:30 Plastic Section 11:30 Degaruda More info. Hope to see you at Fatty's 4th of July. Check out my Contented piece on Degaruda here.
