From the Philosopher's Desk

I just added some mailing list links onto the blogs. Every site seems to have them so I signed up for Mailchimp to see what's it's all about. More and more my job is an online marketing job, but that also means there are opportunities for others. Currently there are four writers on Rock Philosophy: Andy, Toby, and Gabriel based in KL. I have quietly been approaching active musicians who happen to be writers to become regular scribes on Rock Philosophy. There are many reasons for this: with Andy he just knew a great deal about music genealogy in Bangkok and I had to have him contributing to enlighten us all - we still spend a great deal of time chatting about Bangkok music history. With Toby, I knew I wanted active bands in Bangkok to be repping and his own point of view and outlook on music and arts is from the perspective of someone who really is at home sitting with a cup of tea. Gab Lynch is a fantastic musician and his very personal Facebook posts about the songwriting process were interesting for me as a writer and  music fan. And I think we have a few more writers coming on board as well! It is my hope that these personal narratives which all seem to weave together will tell some great epic tale of the Bangkok independent music community - there is nothing like an exhilarating story of adventure, overcoming the odds, yet full of peril, setbacks, etc. It is a great honor to have these guys agree to contribute to my blog and as I feel exhausted delivering my own opinions which aren't anymore valuable than anyone else's with a mouth or pen or typewriter, it has become of utmost importance to give the microphone to the artists themselves and let them tell their own tales without a filter

Also I am now opening the gateway for more contributors working under pen names but writing fiction or Mock-u-fiction related to music. Beware for a new contributor named Bobby McCracken... word has it he has washed up on the shores in Pattaya and is coming to Bangkok looking for gigs, a dentist and Valtrex.

By end of year I hope to have 10 regular contributors and a few weekly posts.

I have been chatting with my mate Allan about building a proper website - he is a back end developer... I think that is how he would describe it. Once I figure out how it functions and what its function is I guess we can start as I am not happy just having this Weebly blog and anticipate massive amounts of content we’d want to retrieve from a database or something. There is also issue of the front end development (apparently this does not mean front end loader!)

I have also been approaching people and businesses to come on board as either a major partner or sponsor. Rock Philosophy is moving up and I need all the help there is. I am researching ways to do Kickstarter campaigns to raise money for a new computer, buy new hard drives, cloud storage and register a domain name not to mention fund development on the new website: front and back end dev, graphics designer. A lot of this stuff is kinda fun but also is just like a normal job after a while – meaning it’s not fun, but there is a pay off when you see what you created. If I meet someone who tells me they discovered a new band because they found my blog, that’s the best part. That’s how this all began.. an obsessive music fan had to share cool stuff with as many people as he could.

And now I am something akin to an administrator or manager challenged with growing demands for my time. But this I see as success or victory. The fact anyone really wants me there is kinda nice. Still I need help which is why I recruited more scribes – not just any – I try to get the awesome people that happen to play music and write to a fair degree. In fact, Andy, Toby and Gab write in ways that I simply cannot.

Your words of support and encouragement mean a great deal to me. Building this thing has been the most rewarding yet hardest and most time-consuming thing I have ever done. Sometimes I want to quit and something I think I want to retreat, but I burned all bridges to my old life because I knew if I didn’t, I would not be taking the chances I am now… and never know what I was capable of.

I have been busy adding pages: one new one is for press clippings and to impress you with my stats – unfortunately necessary in arena we’re in. I am also adding band pages, pages for videographers, photographers, designers. Because my blog is a gateway, I can use it to make sure my friend that are remarkably creative and inspiring have an opportunity to be discovered.

More pages will keep appearing on the blog. If you want to become a sponsor, patron, contributor, send me a message. If you want to hire me as a photographer, writer, PR consultant, drummer, life coach, you can also contact me. Want to buy prints, contact me.

Stay awesome. And thank you for your support.
