Let the guitars burn.
Hey Mick, you’re now playing guitar with Cold Black Vines but you are also known for Abuse The Youth. I am pretty sure I saw ATY play at The Rock Pub back in 2009 maybe with The Standards and Ghost Story! What is happening with Abuse The Youth now? -
We’re in the process of recording new songs, we have (what i believe to be) a really good demo at the time so we try to make it great and sure it’s gonna take some time. Some people might say like “Oh! These guys are still playing?” Yeah, like disappeared for pretty long time.
Are you an avid guitar collector? Something tells me you are. How many guitars do you own and what is your favorite? -
I’m not a collector. I used to have many guitars……i have about 8 guitars now??? (not sure). When i found a guitar i really like then i buy it and sometimes i keep it, sometime i don’t like it anymore so i sell it to get another one so i’m not gonna say i’m a collector, actually i have couple of Gibson i’m selling it right now haha…….my favorite one should be the Gibson Flying-V i bought it around the time i started ATY. It’s a very first Gibson i own even i hardly play it now but still keep it. It reminds me a lot of things i’ve been through since day 1.
As a guitarist what is one thing you wish you did better? -
That’s a tough question. I always want to keep writing better songs or materials and also listen to more genre of music. It’s always about improving my writing skill since i never wanted to be a guitar hero anyway. I started my music experience as a singer, guitar was my secondary instrument.
Lemmy’s death broke my heart and still. I was so glad i got a chance to see Motorhead. And it’s just few months before he started to get worse and had to stop playing show. When i started exploring the world of heavy music, everyone and every music magazine here only suggest you those L.A. hair bands or any bands with a guitar virtuoso. When i first know Motorhead it was just a logo on some guys T-shirt at JJ Market then the first time i heard their song it blew me away and i was so surprise that they’d been around for so long. Lemmy was a living god. He’s one of the few people who really deserved the word “God”. More than god himself, maybe?
How did Cold Black Vines come together? Were you a fan of your current band mates’ other bands like Blood Thirst Spider and TSOS for Ed and Deadtown Trash for Aaron? (Sorry, I have no idea what Monster does besides play in CBV but he kills drums like Animal from The Muppets.) -
I know Ed for long time since when ATY started to play some indie scene shows around Bangkok. Ed organized some of em and i became a fan of Ed’s band since then. They were the Barbwire Bats at the time (with Yusuke from LowFat played drums). Then one day he asked me if i know any guitarist who like to play some heavy stuff cos he was starting a new band so i was Fuck Yeah i know one guy, that’s me.
If you could perform your own supergroup with any musicians alive or dead who would be in it and you cannot say any person you have played with in past or play with currently. -
Well, i never like the idea of supergroup but if i have to do it then should be a bunch of people i really want to tell them how they inspired me, so……Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, James Hetfeild, Michael Amott(Guitar from Arch Enemy), Lemmy on the bass and Dave Grohl on the drums. That’s sounds ridiculous.
Your house, condo or apartment is on fire and all your possessions are inside. After making certain all people and pets are safely out of harm’s way, you have time to grab one thing? What do you grab? -
My laptop and Harddisk with all the pictures from my last 15 years in it. Le Last 2 years my car got jacked and the bastard took all my stuff, Laptop, iPad, my notes, guitar(If you’re seeing a white Gibson firebird anywhere just let me know)….back then i was so upset about the guitar but later on i realize what sadden me the most is all the pictures in my Laptop hadn’t been backed up yet. There’re picture of my wife, my trip, my dog and else which I can’t recall it.
If you were reading a reviewers scathing critique of your guitar playing what is the worst thing they could write? - “The dude didn’t turn on enough volume”
In three words describe the music of Cold Black Vines? - Fast, Hard, Crazy
If you could describe the music or personality of each of your CBV bandmates each with only three words, how would you describe them? Ed is “Punk Rock Attitude”, Aaron is “Big Bad Monster”, Monster is “Loud Polite Bomber”
If audiences only heard one CBV song what would it be? - “Cold Black Vines” Not saying it’s our best song but it’s the one song that tells you everything we’re about.
Are you stoked to be playing with MDC, Elected Officials, License To Kill and Lord Liar Boots in January? - Sure, It’s our first show after Ed’s coming back from US too. I love the vibe at Soy Sauce and the line up is so great.
Join Mick and Cold Black Vines as they perform with Millions of Dead Cops, The Elected Officials, Lord Liar Boots and License To Kill at Soy Sauce Factory on January 27th 2017. For information click here.
