Part Time Musicians Great song and video. Can't wait to see them some time.
Paul suggested I write a post on highlights of my experience covering music. Stone Free 3 would definitely be #1 highlight and part of that experience was the Yellow Fang performance. This video was captured by Jiro Endo, the lighting designer. if you watch closely you can see many familiar faces in it.
This is a clip of Aire (pronouced EYE-RAY) and Stone Free 3. They always play well and drummer, Ginn Sentaro's driving visceral playing always hold my attention. I think their performance at Noise Market 2 was particularly good if not great. They have a new album out!
Chladni Chandi is a fantastic live band. There music is dreamy, psychedelic rock. For a 3-piece they pack a punch. Must be experienced live.
Saw Zweedz n' Roll at Hemingway's a few weeks ago. Tragically haunting melodies. Missed their set last night at Rehab but you can catch them often at Play Yard if I am correct.
Hysterical video by Triggs and the Longest Day directed by the bands singer/ guitarist ,Tokin. Features many of the stars of Panda Records. It's a catchy tune of garage/ surf rock... stays in your head longer than you would expect.
Stylish Nonsense video directed by Gabriel Camelin. It's not quite definitive of the legendary duos live performance which are improvised and often 'stylized nonsense' - an artistic production in front of your very eyes and ears.
Philosopher Brothers is one of my favorite bands that I have discovered of late. Watch the video and see why. I'm not the only one with that opinion.
Inspirative was the last band at the Stone Free 3 Festival. After 2 days of music, beer, non-sleeping, Fatty's burgers and dogs, Inspirative opened up the heavens with ethereal, uplifting that moves through you like heroin. I've never done heroin but there is something about the music that makes you want to nod out in ecstasy.
Hariguem Zaboy was last seen at Harmonica opening for Deerhoof. They have a new album coming out in early July. Stay tuned for my interview with Jar from Hariguem Zaboy.
One of my earliest memories in my search for the underground was Basement Tape. I took this video at Noise Market 2. In the beginning of the song, Put, the drummer, pops out from behind the drum kit, hands his sticks to the drummer from Hariguem Zaboy who then starts playing drums while Put runs around getting everyone to dance. Oops, didn't get that in the video. :P
This video of my friends Matthew Fischer and the Fishes was taken last weekend at Cosmic Cafe when they opened for Cloud Nothings. If there is a living example of the power of tenacity then you are looking at it. The band has slowly catapulted themselves into the limelight.
Matthew Fischer asked me when I walked into the bar one day, "Have you seen the Cloud Behind video?" I had not. I've since watched it a dozen or more times. I caught their set last night at Rehab. Looking forward to a full album at some time in the future..
Count the Thief are one hard working band rumored for grueling rehearsals. No matter what you think of the music, it's undeniable that eventually the practice, gigging and touring will pay off for the ambitious 3-some. They remind me that remarkable people do the things that the other 99% will not do. Stay with it lads.
Another one of the great performances in Bangkok underground rock history: Degaruda at Noise Market 2. At about 8:30 into the video, guitarist, Dino Tarasin, asks, "Are you ready?"; Phil's rumbling bass kicks off a fan favorite "Slumber Party" and Panda Records MVP Pok Pongprayoon pogoes into frame - then the crowd erupts into a pogo party.
If there was a Plastic Section fan club I'd probably be the de facto president if no one else was going to do it. Rock n' roll rearranged, reinterpreted. While tipping the hat to the old, they can't help but ad their own modern day twists. Buy the CD.
The Sticky Rice are one of the best live bands around and you are guaranteed to see them at some point or another. This video is from Noise Market 1 back in November of 2013 - I have a fond memory of my friend's toddler song dancing to Da Pookster's and company's insane brand of dub. Must see live.
The earliest band interview ever was with The Sangsom Massacre way back in March of 2013. They were a 5 piece then; now they have stripped down to 3. It's raw, energetic, rock n' roll with elements of punk, metal and garage. This video was put together by Gary Boyle from a show at Cosmic Cafe.
Kinetics is a rocking instrumental band that I fell in love with the first time I caught them at Zoo last October. I had a chance to interview them last month and am waiting for the right time to post. Pretty wicked band.
If you were in the need of relaxing meditation music, I'd put on Govinda. This video was shot for In the Living Room youtube channel. You can catch Govinda playing with any number of bands including The Sticky Rice, Chladni Chandi, and Tapestry.
